Sage Pin Povi Mountain Flower

“My name is Sage Mountainflower. I am a Beadwork Artist and Fashion Designer. I am from Ohkay Owingeh, Taos Pueblo, and the Navajo Nation. I began this endeavor as a mother creating traditional and contemporary attire for my children. As a young girl, I learned to do beadwork by observing my mom and my aunties when they used to visit with each other and work on their projects. I was later was gifted a sewing machine to assist in making a grass dance outfit for my son and where I began to teach myself how to sew. The breathe of my work represents who I am as native woman and my background as environmental scientist. My creations allow me to share their emergence by fusing my traditional ecological knowledge with western science in teaching people about our ancestral lands in program development and project work implemented in my work in the environmental field and natural resources through my designs. My designs illustrate the relationship between the people and the natural world. I emerge the natural elements into my designs which creates my unique style.”
