Amy Deer
Amy Deer is an enrolled member of the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska and also Sicangu Lakota. Currently make jewelry by using the two needle applique technique, bead lazy or lane stitch, and embroidery quilling. Buckskin is used to make small bags, card holders, baby moccasins and used for backing of earrings and medallions. Beading and quilling brings out her creativity and she is always looking to improve her skills with each technique. In the past, she enjoyed being a vendor with her mother at local powwows and other events. On a weekly basis she attends beading and sewing groups online and in person. This time is used to finish up on projects that she is working on for her children and others. It feels good to know that others enjoy the items that she makes and that some also come to her to learn. Beading and quilling keeps her close to her culture.
